Saturday is our raffle drawing! If you have entered our July raffle, please be present at 10 a.m. at the Market Manager’s table. If you are not present, you can not claim your lovely handcrafted with love vase.

On Saturday July 31st farmers expect to have blueberries, hen & duck eggs, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet corn , freshly dug potatoes, spaghetti & summer squash, pumpkins, homemade granola, baked goods, and offers on live chickens, ducks, and piglets.

Vendors and gardeners interested in selling may call 623 9272. Support your Cocke County community and local business. Buy fresh and local food at the Newport Farmers Market.

Domestic Kitchen Certification Course July 22, 2010

For all interested vendors and potential vendors, there will be a Domestic Kitchen Tennessee Food Safety Certification Course in nearby Jonesborough, TN. This will help those interested in selling homemade baked goods (with certain restrictions) or establishing a domestic kitchen in their home.
The cost of the course is $100 and is available through the University of Tennessee.

July Raffle Drawing – $1 per entry

Each month we will be fundraising for the Newport Farmer’s Market by offering a give-a-way! When you come by the market, stop by the Market Manager’s table and enter to win! Even if your not interested in the drawing, we still encourage everyone to donate at least a little to the market. We’re incredibly thrifty and so even a couple of quarters goes a long way. ;)

July Raffle
Handmade basket weave ceramic vase. This lovely vase was handcrafted by one of our growers, and was donated for the benefit of the market. It has room for personalizing and is currently unpainted with only a glaze on it. Retail Value: $19.99

The winner will be chosen on July 31st at 10am. The winner MUST BE PRESENT to claim the prize. If we draw the name of someone NOT present, we will continue drawing until someone who is present is able to claim the prize.

COMING NEXT MONTH:
August Raffle: Cornucopia $2 per entry
A Basket FILLED with fresh foods from our growers and vendors. This basket will be filled the day of the drawing on August 28th. It will include a variety of fresh locally grown foods, flowers & homemade/home-baked items.

Opening Day Excitement

We’re off to a great start this 2010 season and I am proud to report that opening day brought out 5 serious growers who we can count on providing us with our staples throughout this growing season. While it is still very early in the market season, I can see already that for a small town market, we are going to have many big things happening!

Rainbow Baby Carrots
Specialty Salad Mixes
Arugula
Strawberries
A Variety of Fresh Cut cooking herbs

In addition to ready to use produce & supplies, we also had a WIDE variety of seedlings & nursery plants available to get your own gardens off to a great start! Specialty seedlings like these can not be found at the local Wal-Mart or Lowes, and plants grown by our vendors are healthy, natural and accustomed to TN growing conditions! They make great gifts too and you would be suprised at what you find at the market that you never would’ve dreamed you could grow in your own garden!

This Week’s Shopper’s Tip: If your looking for something special this summer, don’t forget to LET US KNOW!! When you come to the market, talk to the growers, get to know them and their practices. Think of them as custom gardeners potentially at your own disposal! Want a specialty tomato? Ask one of our tomato vendors to grow it for you!

This Week’s Gardener Tip: Do you love a particular vendors variety of tomato or pepper? Ask the grower if they can start & bring seedlings for you! Its not suprising that everyone is always happy to share a love of gardening & good food!
